In this critical module, we discuss Item 13: Suicidality and/or Depressive Mood, with additional comments on the contribution of narcissistic envy to violence risk. Item 14: Irrationally Suspicious or Bizarre Beliefs, defines indicators for violence-related mental symptoms or serious mood problems, that when present can play a critical role in a case. The “nothing to lose” suicide-homicide connection is emphasized, and the rare but highly serious combination of violent delusions and psychopathy. Item 15: Substance Abuse addresses both the risk of generalized violence posed by the misuse of different substances, and the general absence of substance use during targeted attacks. Case examples are included.
